Girl Time From Louisiana

Hey friends!!

I am writing this 8th Girl Time post while spending my last day in Louisiana with my “sister” Becky from Buckets of Burlap.  What an incredible week this has been.  Of course, as usual, the time has flown by and we are not ready for the week to end.

This is the day where we all get a little mopey knowing our time together is coming to an end for awhile.  Thankfully, each time we are together we begin planning for our next visit.  Her sweet family will be coming to Tennessee in just a couple of months for my birthday!  While they are in Tennessee, we will decide what month we will be coming back to Louisiana.

I totally love this family!

I cannot put into adequate words what each and every one of them mean to me.  The best way to say it is that they are a true gift from God to me and to my family and we know God’s gift’s are perfect.

I always tell myself at this point that I will not cry when I leave.   But I will.  No matter how hard I try, the tears will flow.

I will miss the little fella with the huge imagination.  Oh how he makes me laugh.

I will miss the two girls who have become like my extra daughters.  What dreams these girls have that I am having the honor of experiencing a little with them.  Thank you Lord for these special girls with their special gifts from You.

I will miss Mr. Buckets who has become like a brother.  He and God are why this friendship became possible in the first place.

And, Becky….it is impossible for me to tell you what she means to me.  It’s strange.  A little not understandable at times how our friendship formed and has blossomed in two years.  It is nothing but a “God Thing”.  He made this friendship.  We totally understand each other.  We are so much alike.  I am so thankful for her.

I can’t wait until June for us to all be back together again.

Time is precious, isn’t it?

Now….

Becky and I both picked a blogger to share today for our Girl Time.

Becky wanted me to share Cathy from Cobblestone Farms.

I did follow this lady but somehow she got off of my blog roll.  Now, I will be getting her email updates so I don’t miss her beautiful farmhouse updates.

Cobblestone Farms

Beautiful white kitchen.  Glorious blue Ball Jars.  Bead board.  Farmhouse sink.  Oh my…

Check out Cathy’s beautiful farmhouse when you have a chance.

Thanks, Becky, for sharing Cobblestone Farms with my friends today.

The Fancy Shack is a blog that Becky and I both have just found and really enjoyed looking at this week.

One of our favorite things to do when we get together is look at blogs.  We are like little girls pouring over pictures, analyzing each one.

The Fancy Shack had some great photos and vignettes to pour over.  She also just found an amazing barn door that looks simply beautiful in her home.

I have decided that I NEED an old barn door.  Need…well, maybe not need…WANT would be more like it.  I know where a great old barn door is that would be just perfect in my house.  It is on my grandparents old barn and my grandfather who was a livestock dealer walked in and out of that barn door thousands of times.  My treasure hunting uncle has also walked in and out of that same barn door many many times and still continues to.  Thus the reason I won’t be getting that door anytime soon.  He needs it more than me.

Anyway, I just went on a little detour there about barn doors.

Head over to The Fancy Shack and introduce yourself to Kimberlee when you have a few minutes.  I need to go introduce myself to her now as well.

Enjoy the blog visits, my friends.

Let them know I sent you over.

Be blessed beyond measure and then thank Him for it.

Are You Chicken?

Okay, I had to name this post that because it really is just all about our chickens.

eagle 20

I never thought I would do a post with only chicken pictures because I know that none of you want to see just chickens.

eagle 6

You come here to see an old farm table or white dishes on a chippy shelf.

You would probably much prefer seeing shelves stacked with vintage linens.

eagle 10

You know,  this post will probably get no comments except for a few of you farm girls who appreciate a backyard full of poultry or some of you who would love to have farm fresh eggs on a daily basis right from your own backyard.  Those comments will be appreciated, by the way.

We now have 27 hens and one rooster on this little hobby farm of ours.

We are getting 20 plus eggs everyday.

That’s why these chickens are getting their pictures made today.

They deserve to be recognized for all of their hard work.

Awesome, right?

Girl Time Tuesday-#7

Our seventh Tuesday together.  Wow!

I love this time with y’all just sharing and chatting a little.

My post today is going to be a wee bit different because I will only be sharing one blog with you.

The thing is,  most of you already know this wonderfully talented lady.  But just in case you don’t know her, then you are in for a real treat.  Like a REAL BIG treat…

The sweet friend I want to share with you today is Becky from Buckets of Burlap.

white countertops 1

Yep, I agree with you….gorgeous kitchen.

barn door coffee table 7

Living room, too…gorgeous.

Actually, Becky’s entire home is fabulous!

This lady has talent that oozes from her.  It comes naturally.

Her husband, Mr. Buckets of Burlap, has just as much talent.

Together, they make a magnificent pair.

Now, I want to let you know a little about my relationship with Becky and her family.

You see, this family has become our family.

Becky is not just a blogging friend.  She has become like a sister.

She understands me and I understand her.  We “get” each other.

Our families love each other.  Our kids love each other.  We are a good match.

Blogging for me has been a wonderful experience in so many ways, but I have to say that meeting Becky and her family has been, by far, the greatest reward.

Okay…want to know something really cool…

If you are reading this on the day that it was posted, then I am right now headed to Louisiana for a week long vacation with Becky and her family in her beautiful farmhouse.

Want to know what I am excited about?

…sitting on her deck and drinking coffee

…eating her delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies

…playing crazy games sitting around her coffee table

…going shopping

…talking, laughing, probably crying, staying up late, browsing other people’s blogs, watching our kids laugh and play together

…oh, I could go on and on, but I won’t.

Pray for safe travels for us, please.

Blessings to you all!!!

Something to Learn

I love to plant flowers in the springtime.

potting bench 2

The problem is I don’t have a very green thumb and they eventually end up looking pretty pitiful.

For the last few years, I have opted out of buying many flowers and have just bought ferns.  Yes, I can keep a Boston fern alive with no problem.

potting bench 3

Well, this year I want something different than just ferns.

I want flowers!

potting bench 4

I want bright, cheerful colors!

yellow flowers 1

I want fragrance!

I want to be able to go outside and bring blooms in to decorate my table.

Ferns don’t' do so well in a vase on a table, you know.

So, I have planted flowers.

I have them in pots of all shapes and sizes.

herbs 2

I have them in the ground.

I have kept the little information sticks that come with them so I can be reminded how often to water them and how I should take care of them.

bucket 1

I really really really want them to grow and be healthy.

I really want them to be beautiful and have a bounty of fragrant blooms.

I want to have a green thumb.

My mom does.

She can grow anything and everything.  Her rose bushes and flowers are always so beautiful.

That trait skipped me, I think.

Or maybe not…

Maybe I just haven’t tried hard enough.

Maybe I gave up too soon.

Maybe if I am a little more diligent in watering and feeding and pruning, then maybe just maybe…

I’ll let you know what happens.

I'll let you know if my thumb color starts changing.

Happy Things

Little things make me happy.

I don’t need big expensive gifts.

Extravagant really isn’t for me.

This shelf is full of simple happy things…

pig 6

Do you see them?

Do you see my happy things?

pig 3

The bright yellow tulips were a gift from my husband….just because.

pig 9
This little pig standing proudly on this beautiful stack of linens is totally a smile maker for me.

I found him several days ago at Homegoods while on a car buying trip to Alabama.  (more on the car trip later)

pig 12

Stacks of vintage linens are gorgeous to my hazel eyes.

Like really really gorgeous.  I could have them stacked everywhere.

So glad my mom knows how much I love them because she is helping me build my collection.

pig 10

Stacks of books…

Favorite #9…”A” for Amy…an old black and white photo of my dad when he was a wee boy…an old pocket watch face

All Happy things.

pig 7

It really can be little things for me.

Diamonds are beautiful, but I don’t need them….just give me a gorgeous old table cloth and I am good to go.

I hope you are filled with joy and happiness.

Hey, this is out of the blue, but if you ever have a prayer need that you want to share with me, just message me and let me know.  I will pray….

6th Girl Time Is Here

This is our 6th time getting together for Girl Time.

It’s been fun for me so far and I hope for you as well.

I enjoy giving people shout outs.  I like encouraging others.  I take pleasure in making somebody feel just a smidge better about themselves.

God has given me the gift of encouragement.  It is not me.  It is a gift from Him.

I am going to share three sweet blogs with you today.

The first lady I want to give a big shout out to is Melissa from Storytime

Oh my goodness, can she take wonderfully fabulous photographs.  Just take a look at this beautiful puppy of hers…

_MG_1858

Dying here when I look at this picture.  I want that sweet doggy and I want to be able to take pictures like Melissa does.

Please head over and see for yourself what I am talking about.

Storytime is worth your time.  Let Melissa know you stopped by if you have an extra minute to leave her a comment.

****

And then there is Lynn at Shabby Story.

fireplace-017aweb

Need I say more??

Lynn has such a sweet, romantic, feminine touch.

You will love her and her beautiful blog.

****

Mary Alice at Chateau Chic is the next blogger I want to share today.

She has a beautiful home filled with fabulous treasures.

Not only does she have fabulous items, she knows exactly how to put things together.

Head over to Chateau Chic and spend a little time looking around.  You will be glad you did.

****

Next week I will only be sharing one home with you.

Are you curious at all why just one?

Because that one home is the home that I will be leaving on that very day to go spend the week at.

Oh, I cannot wait!!!

Come back next week and find out where I am going.  This is not my first visit there, but I always get giddy just as if it were the first.

See you next week.

Blessings to you all.

A Table of Plenty

My youngest daughter and I recently had the opportunity to work at the Huntsville Rescue Mission.  It was a wonderful experience for both of us and one will we not soon forget.

before table 1

Boy, there are so many lessons we can learn from being in an environment like that.

Faith and I were able to see a world different from ours.

full table in process 2 - Copy

We saw people of all ages who were in need.  Some were new arrivals and in desperate need.  Some had been there awhile and were on the road to recovery and on there way out.

We carried on conversations with some of them.

full table in process 6

  We served them meals.

We carried their trays and threw away their trash.

We shook their hands and patted them on their backs.

full table 1 - Copy

We even had the chance to worship our Lord with some of them during chapel time.

cross 1

They were just like you and me.

They just, at some time or another, made a wrong turn…made a bad decision.

Haven’t we all done that ourselves?

eggs 1

On Easter Sunday, I looked at our dining room table and I thanked the Lord for all that He has blessed me with.

I saw our table filled with people I love.

eggs 3

It was filled with wonderful food.

It was thoughtfully decorated.

Then I remembered the rescue mission dining hall…..

I thought about the tables filled with all of those precious souls.

flowers 2

They were so thankful for their trays filled with good hot food.

after table 1

They were thankful for a warm bed to sleep in.

after table 2

They didn’t have family with them but they did have people who cared.

full table 2 - Copy

I sat at my table and thanked God for Jesus, my family, my friends, my food.

They did the same at their table.
