Flowers In a Wooden Tote

Hey my friends!

Hope you’re great today.

I want to show you a few simple shots in my dining room.

table 2

This wonderful old wooden tote was a flea market find a couple of months ago.  I bought it for my etsy shop but decided I needed to hang onto it for a little while.

So glad I did..

We are fortunate to have beautiful dogwood trees blooming all over our property and they are beautiful.  I brought some branches in and began placing them around the house.  They look gorgeous!

Simple, fresh and lovely to my eyes.

Preparing for a road trip.  Would love your prayers for safety and that we will be a blessing to those we meet along the way.  Thanks!

Have a blessed day, friends.

A Few Shots Of the Living Room

Hey all my friends.

Hope you are all well!

We are doing wonderful and still enjoying beautiful weather here in Tennessee.

With pretty weather comes spring cleaning, and that’s just what I did all day yesterday.  Can I just tell you that I had a blast?  I am one of those people who really loves to clean.  I love cleaning, organizing, decluttering, and prettying things up.

And, you know what we do when things are clean, right?    We take pictures.

I know I have shown you shots of things in my living room before, but I thought I would try to show you all of it while it was clean.  Smile

fireplace 1

Our fireplace sits at an angle in the room, which really helps in furniture placement.

See my ceiling fan…I know ceiling fans aren’t a decorator’s choice, but I like having a fan in our rooms.  To us, it’s practical and practical is good.

ent ctr 1

Yep, big dark fireplace and big dark entertainment center.  Nope, neither one of them can be changed.   This TV is my hubbies baby and he actually would love to have one that’s even bigger.  OH MY..

I made a little paper garland that hangs at the top of the entertainment center, hung some burlap behind the TV and filled the cubbies with linens and blue ball jars.  Can you tell that I am trying hard to soften that baby up?  I also covered the big old speaker with burlap.

couch 1

I love old doors, windows, and ladders and  incorporate them wherever I can.  I think they add so much personality and dimension to a room.

couches 1

Our brown leather sofa and love seat are wonderfully soft and comfortable.  Love them and love that they will just keep looking better as they get more worn.

coffee table 3

I had a burlap grain sack on the coffee table during the fall and winter, but added this beautiful vintage white runner for the spring and summer.  It made such a difference in lightening up this table.

coffee table 4

This great big chair and a half  is mine.  Yes, I know, usually the man gets the recliner, but we bought this chair right after our youngest child was born and she and I have sat  together in it for almost nine years now.  It’s just kind of a gimme that she and I get the chair at night and hubbie and other daughter get the sofas.  Our son prefers the floor, so everybody is happy.

We are fortunate to have a big living area.  Thankfully, our children tend to hang around me and my husband and don’t go off to their bedrooms.  A big living room enables us to all be able to spread out comfortably.

Enough living room talk…hope you all have a wonderful Friday and fantastic upcoming weekend.

May the joy of the Lord fill you to overflowing!

Blooms and Birthdays

Hi everyone!

March has been a wonderful and busy month in our home.  We have celebrated two special birthdays so far.  My husband’s birthday was the first of the month and our son’s 20th birthday was last week.  Yes, I said 20.  Yes, I have been a little bit emotional.

In celebration of our son, we chose his favorite dessert, cheesecake.

table 6

Keith loves cheesecake.  This one is not homemade, but my husband does make a homemade gourmet cheesecake that is incredible.

table 4

The dogwoods are blooming and are just gorgeous. I love the way they fill up a container.

table 10

Flowers of any kind make a room so festive.

Isn’t God a wonderful Artist?

Spring is such a wonderful time to fill your home with beautiful things.  Go outside and see what you can bring in to add a little more loveliness to your home.

Hope your week has been wonderful so far and continues that way.

Blessings to you from me!

Spring Sprucing

Hey sweet friends!

I hope all of you have had a wonderful weekend.

Ours has been full of sunshine and fun!

The sunshine had us outside most all of the weekend and when I saw our forsythia bush blooming, I knew that some of the beautiful yellow blooms had to make their way inside.

flowers 1

Aren’t those bright yellow blooms just gorgeous!

flowers 2

See my great old door back there?

flowers 3

The door is almost a grayish green and is perfectly aged.  It has sneak peaks of my favorite color green peaking through in certain spots.

flowers 4

My old faded green ammo box is the perfect place to hold some of my favorite bottles.

flowers 5

My fabric wreath has made its way to my new door and I love it there.

flowers 6

My peat pot filled with a little bird’s nest, holding tiny blue eggs, reminds me so much of a book that I am reading right now called One Thousand Gifts.  One of my favorite friends had that in her Junk to Joy etsy shop.

flowers 7

Loving this spring vignette.  It makes me feel like sunshine is in my home.

Okay, I don’t usually show that many photos of one thing.  Sorry…

Speaking of spring and sunshine….I am headed to the kitchen to fix a big bowl of angel food cake with strawberries and vanilla ice cream.   Doesn’t that sound like spring to you?

Blogger Tag and I’m It-Q and A

My friend, Kristin, from A Simply Klassic Home, sent me a sweet letter today asking if I would play a game that’s going around called Blogger Tag.   The game is that she asks me questions about myself, and I answer them.

Uggg….I really have a hard time at stuff like this because it requires me to think to deep within myself.    That’s hard for me.

Anyway, because I really have enjoyed meeting Kristin and think she is a super sweet lady, I decided I could give this a try.

If you choose to read further, thank you.  If you don’t, it’s okay.  Really.

I am showing you me even though I very seldom ever post pictures of me.  I thought maybe it might help you to read about me if you saw me.  (That would be four times I said ME)  Smile

amy 1

Here are the questions that Kristin asked…

1.  If you could spend the day with your favorite blogger, who would it be and why? What would you do?

Oh my goodness, this is so hard.  You have to understand that I am such a people pleaser and do not like to hurt anyone’s feelings.  I want to make everyone happy, and do you know how hard that is to do?  (anyway, I digress)  Some would say that they want to list everybody.  I say that and mean it.  I want to list everyone that I follow.

Can I give a couple of people of who I would want to spend the day with?  First of all, Becky from Buckets of Burlap, has become like my sister, and I love being with her.  I have actually gotten to spend time with her and we have a blast doing anything and everything together.  The other person that I would love to meet and spend the day with is Debbie from Words on Wheels.  This lady loves the Lord, is an amazing prayer warrior, and a truly funny person.  I would love to sit with her and study the Word.  I think she is probably an amazing Bible teacher.  Okay…one more person, please.  I would also love to spend the day with Becky from Junk to Joy.  Again, a lady who loves the Lord and loves to talk about Him.  She is also amazingly talented so I would love to sit in her craft room and learn from her.

WHEW!!!!  That was hard because I really want to tell you so many more, but I will stop.

2.  What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

My favorite flavor is homemade vanilla ice cream.  I like vanilla because I can dress it up with different fruits, sauces, etc.  I am pretty simple.

3.  What current decorating/design/clothing trend do you despise?

I will answer about clothing.  I highly dislike low rise pants that so many girls and women wear now.  I do not want to see your underwear or bottom and I sure don’t want my husband or son to see them.  I could preach a sermon on this one, but I will stop with that.

4.  What TV show are you embarrassed to admit that you watch?

Ok, honestly, there are several shows that I watch that do not have the best language.  In our defense,  we do use a language blocker on our television, but it doesn’t always catch all of the bad words.  And if I am being really honest, there are just some shows that are funnier if you have some of those choice words.  For example, I LOVE Tyler Perry’s movies and his tv shows.  I’m sorry, but when you take out the bad words, it’s just not as funny.  (how terrible do you think I am now)   DISCLAIMER…we have a few words that we WILL NOT listen to and if they come on, we will change the show.

5.  Who or what inspired you to start blogging?

I have  a precious friend who began a family blog and encouraged me to do the same.  I first started blogging on a different blog that was just family stuff.  Soon there after, I began my home blog and was hooked!  What friends I have made on here and what things I have learned.

6.  What quote/saying do you aim to live by?

I don’t know that I have a quote or saying necessarily that I live by.  I do have favorite scriptures that I turn to and try to focus on.    I have also tried to focus on the word “devoted” over the last few years.  I am first and foremost devoted to God and then my family.

7.  What do you think of Pinterest? (this may be a loaded question right now...)

I really don’t get on Pinterest very often.  I enjoy it when I do, but I just don’t have the time.  I spend waaay too much time as it is on my blog and my etsy shop so I try to stay away from Pinterest unless I really have a reason.  (my teenage daughter loves it)

8.  What's your favorite sandwich?

I love grilled cheese sandwiches on homemade bread.  I like to use different kinds of cheeses and then add a few pickles.  Remember, I told you that I am simple.

9. What is your guilty pleasure?

I have a diet Dr. Pepper each and every day.  It has to be in a bottle and needs to be really cold.  I am probably a diet Dr. Pepper addict.  I know they are not good for you, but I just gotta have it.  Add a York Peppermint Patty, and I am one happy women.

10.  What is the worst gift you've ever received?

Honestly, I don’t think there is a worst gift.  I have had a few that were not great, but I really don’t want to say what they were in case the giver of that gift reads this post.  Smile  My daughter reminded me that I got big old granny panties for my 40th birthday that were pretty awful.

11.  Do you have a favorite quote from a movie?

Frankly, my dear…NO, JUST JOKING, but I had to say that.   It would have to be from The Help.  “You is smart, You is kind, You is important”.  Oh, how that made me cry.  That is my heart.  That’s what I want to tell everyone I am around.    I want them to know how wonderful, precious, and worthy they are.  I love that part of the movie.

There you have it.

Are you still with me?

Did you really read all of that?

I probably wrote way too much, but when I start, I just can’t stop on some things.

I would love for you to share a comment on something that I wrote.  Or, ask me a question if you have one.  Now that I have answered those questions, why not just go ahead and answer some more, right?

Thanks, Kristin, for wanting to get to know me a little better.  I sure enjoyed getting to know you better.

God bless you my friends.

Spring Fresh Farm Table

Hi friends!  I hope your weekend was wonderful.
Mine was busy but good.
Saturday was cleaning day and with cleaning comes changing.
I wanted to put a little more spring into my living room so I pulled out vintage fans, gathered blue ball jars, and moved stuff from here to there.  I topped off the farm table with a small bouquet of sweet flowers that my youngest daughter brought in from outside.
fans 2
My vintage fans actually work but I don’t use them because they scare me just a wee bit.  I do think they mark sunny days ahead just beautifully.
See the sweet green bottle filled with beautiful flowers…
Here it is closer up…
green bottle 2
It’s an old 7UP soda bottle that my daughter dug up from a big dirt pile we had brought in for our front yard.  From a slogan we saw on it, we think it dates back to between 1936 to 1952.
The best thing about that little bottle is the bouquet of flowers that it holds.  Is there really anything sweeter than the sweet hands of a child bringing in flowers they have picked from your yard?  Priceless.

This last photo is the entire back corner of my living room.  The curtains came from IKEA a couple of years ago and they cover two long windows that flank a door that leads to my backyard.

As spring comes and  more flowers, shrubbery and dogwoods start blooming outside, I will begin replacing my dried  hydrangeas.  My pitchers, pots, and galvanized buckets will begin holding evidence of sunshiny days very soon.  I can’t wait.
I hope you have enjoyed visiting today.  I know that I have enjoyed sharing.
It’s past time for our school day to begin, but the time change has messed up our schedules a little bit.  First school,  then outside for some play and work if the weather stays pretty.
Blessings to you, my friends.

Spring Time Shelves

Hi my friends

Are you ready for spring?  Are you getting your house spring and summer ready?

I am in the mood to lighten and brighten my house which will also lighten and brighten our moods around here.  We all start going a little stir crazy this time of year and are just ready to be outside all the time.

I was looking through a new to me magazine called Vintage Style, which I love by the way, and found a great idea to freshen up my chippy white shelving unit.

I gathered lots of my favorite whites and started playing.

yes shelf 2

I love white dishes!  I love the varying shades of white!

shelf 1

My number 9 gets moved all over the house because it’s one of my all time favorite things.   I love the industrial look standing right next to the lovely fabrics.

shelf 7

I love to lay stacks of linens on shelves and in little cubbies to soften otherwise hard areas.

This came together so easily and so nicely and really does speak spring to me.

Thanks to Vintage Style magazine for some great inspiration for indoors and out.

Hope the rest of your week is wonderful!

The Kitchen Desk

Hey all!!

Yes, it’s the oak cabinets again, but this time they are decked out with a little burlap.

desk 7

This is a built in desk in my kitchen that I actually never use for working purposes.  It’s just a great storage place.

etc 5

I added a little burlap to the bottom to hide some of the school books and cookbooks that I have stored underneath.    Tension rods are wonderful for little areas like this.

etc 1

Another piece of burlap at the top hides the cds that are stored in little compartments.

Underneath the cd storage, I covered cork board with old magazine pages.  I can use this area as a little message board for appointment cards.

Did you notice the chalkboard paint on the drawer?  That is actually a strip of contact paper that I painted with chalkboard paint and stuck on there.  Remember, the whole thing here is that I am not painting the cabinets,  via my husband’s wishes.

etc 2

My little bistro chair was a Christmas gift from my sister from another mister, Becky.  Love it!

I am doing my best here to soften the look in my kitchen.  Trying hard, my friends, trying hard.  I will try to keep thinking of ideas and will let you know along the way.

***Mom update…Tomorrow, Wednesday, is  my mom’s last treatment!!!!!!!! (pretend like there are a million exclamation points there)  We are beyond thrilled.  Will let you know what happens from here.  Thanks for caring…truly…thank you!

The Difficult Dormer

Hey Friends!

Is the sun shining where you are?  It is here in Tennessee, but it’s still cold.  We just picked up lots of baby chicks to add to the chickens we already have and had to get the heat lamps out to keep them toasty warm.

I have a spot in my home that is super hard to decorate because it’s super hard to get to.  I have to bring the ladder in for this spot so it doesn’t get changed up very often.

I decided last weekend, however,  that this little dormer needed more of a farmhouse look so I brought in the ladder and got busy.

dormer 2

Night time job meant night time photos because I wasn’t dragging that ladder back in the next day.

dormer 3

I hung a sweet little flirty ruffled curtain in the window to soften it up but still wanted the sunlight to be able to stream in, so I made sure to leave it open.

dormer 4

dormer 5

Love the neutrals.  Love the wood.  Love the white.  Love all the textures.

dormer 3

(If you happen to like that tall bushel basket in the back, I actually have two more in my etsy shop.)

What you see here, will be staying for awhile now cause I don’t want to be back up on that ladder again anytime soon.

Do you have inconvenient spots like this spot that are just hard to get to and do anything with?

Ok, time to get up and get busy on other things now.  I do hope you are all having a wonderful day and that your upcoming week is fabulous!

Blessings, my friends.
