Where We Learn…

Hey all my friends!

I know a lot of you know that we homeschool our children.  We began homeschooling when our son started Kindergarten and he just started college this week.  We also homeschool our two other children; one a junior and the other in 3rd grade.

My husband and I have counted it as such a blessing to be able to teach our children at home, even though we all teach our children at home, don’t we?  We just felt led to keep them at home when school time came around.

I am so thankful that God called us to this job.  It has been very rewarding and also very difficult at times.  Oh, did I tell you that I am the teacher and my husband the principal?  Yeah, he gets a kick out of saying that he is the principal.  That’s fine with me because he is also the math and science teacher when the material gets too tough for me to understand.

Right now, our oldest homeschool child does most of her work independently in her room.  (except for test time)  The youngest and I do her work together.  I am teaching her to be more independent in her work, but mom is still needed a big percentage of the time.

Since I do have to be pretty much right with Faith, I like to do our school work downstairs close to the kitchen and laundry room.  We have a big playroom that would be great for a school room, but it’s upstairs and too far from the day’s happenings.

We tried a couple of different places but decided on the room that we or maybe me, find the most calming and relaxing.   That happens to be the dining room with the big farm table and most everything painted white.  It also has two windows that look out onto the front yard so we can see our chickens playing and anyone who happens down the driveway.  I pull the blinds all the way up every morning to let the sun shine in on our day and then we work, and play, and talk, and laugh, and I love it!

This is my youngest love that makes my heart go pitter patter.

You know that I love my farm table and now it’s become a great spot to do more than just eat at.  Learning can be “pretty”.

(chemo treatment number two for my mama tomorrow (Thursday)…please pray if you feel led to) WHEN WE ARE WEAK, HE SURE IS STRONG!!!!!

Flea Market Finds For Etsy

Hi my friends…

Went and did a little shopping at the Nashville flea market on Thursday with my son, who just happened to start college yesterday.  (thankfully, it’s a local community college where he will attend the first two years and can still live at home)

I found a couple of old lockers for myself and a neat old beautiful green ammo box.

I also picked up a few things for my ETSY shop that I thought I would show you.

There were not a lot of vendors this month, but I still found some pretty neat things.

I will be adding these items to my Amys All Things Home Etsy Shop very soon.  Stop by sometime and look around if you have a chance.

Thanks to all who have supported me in this new business venture.  I pray that it will be exactly what God wants it to be.  I sure have a lot to learn about being a “business lady”.

This Is the Day

white plate with flowers

This is the day that the Lord has made.  I will rejoice and be glad in it!!!

I praise God today that He loved us enough to send His one and only Son to die for our sins.

I praise Him that He is faithful to forgive me when I mess up and that His love for me never ceases.

I am so thankful that He never sleeps and that I can talk to Him anytime I want or need to.

I am so thankful that He is walking this road of life with us.

I am so thankful that I am His child and that He is my Daddy.

What are you thankful for today?  Tell Him…

An Old Door and Industrial Stools

Hello to all of you, my sweet friends.

It has been a long while since I showed you my sofa table that I put together on a whim.  And, since I have a few new followers who haven’t seen it and I have changed it up a little bit, I thought I would just show it again.

This is a totally thrown together little table.  I needed something for behind the couch and had the old door in the attic and brought home the stools from my uncle’s house.  Voila…sofa table.

Most of you have seen my great green carpenter’s tote before in my dining room.  It got moved to the living room so now I can see it more often.  I love that chippy green paint.  So perfect.

Do you have any makeshift furniture in your home?  I bet you do because that’s just how we roll, isn’t it?

Happily partying over at Common Ground, At the Picket Fence, My Romantic Home, and The French Country Cottage, and LaurieAnna's for her Farmhouse Friday party.  Headed over to a new party for me at Brambleberry Cottage.

On Top of the Old Jelly Cabinet

Just a quick post today…

I recently picked up another scale at the flea market in Nashville.  This one had a great big tray on it that I really liked.

I also found an old galvanized sap bucket at the flea market while in Texas.

I decided to put these two pieces together on top of my beautiful old jelly cabinet.

This cabinet is on the other wall of my dining room that I showed in my last post about my newly painted buffet.

I am on the lookout now for one of those beautifully ornate scales like my friend, Becky over at Buckets of Burlap has.  Her husband loves scales and has some great ones.

I hope you are all having a blessed day.  “

Dining Room Buffet Goes White

Hey sweet friends!

I have been on a painting spree recently.  I’ve decided that when I get a little stressed, I paint, clean, organize, and change things up.

My family is getting a little paranoid at what I may do next.

My latest project was a buffet that my aunt gave me a few years ago.  It went from dark to light…from boring to fresh.

See what it looked like before…

and what it looks like now…

Did you notice that even the lamp got painted?

Looks better, doesn’t it?

You know that I’ve got to show you a few more photos.

My mom made this great ruffled burlap runner that I use on the buffet.

Let me show you the runner that I am using on my farm table.  I  picked it up at Pottery Barn when I was in Texas.

I love the texture of this runner.  So great!!

Now take a quick look at part of my dining room.

table and full room

I know that I have a lack of seating at this table and am working on filling it up.  Right now I am using old theater seats on the far side of the table but they really aren’t tall enough.  But, for now, they will work  because I need them.

I am on the lookout for mismatched chairs and hopefully will pick up a few more on my next trip to the fleamarket.  That’s the plan.

My jelly cabinet is on the other wall, but I figure you have seen enough for now.  I have done a little playing around with it also.

Okay,  that’s probably all of the furniture that will be painted white for awhile.  The buffet and the secretary were a big deal for me to decide to paint, but I am so happy I did.

Update for my prayer warriors…mom’s first treatment went well today and she said all of the nurses were wonderful.  My youngest and I went and decorated her house for her birthday and took her some yummy and healthy snacks.  It was a surprise for her when she got home from her appointment.  Would love for your prayers to continue as the Lord brings her to your mind.  Her name is Judy, by the way.  Thank you.

I’m headed over to one of my favorite parties now.  Come to LaurieAnna's Farmhouse Friday party with me.  You will be so glad you did.  Really, this is a fabulous party, come on.

Also headed to the wonderful Common Ground for her fun party.

Headed to Donna's at Funky Junk Interiors for her Saturday night party.

Linking up over at Primp Your Stuff party tonight.

Vintage Hanging Scale

The perfect chippy, dirty, old, rusty and green scale now hangs in my kitchen.

I actually got it for my ETSY shop, but just could not get rid of it.

Can’t you see why I kept it?

I have recently added some neat things to my Amys All Things Home Etsy Shop.  Stop by if you have a few extra minutes to look around.

The Kitchen Ladder

Hey everyone…

I have a love of old ladders.

Two of the ladders I have are roadside and sidewalk finds.  That means free.

The ladder I pulled off the sidewalk was in my bedroom for a little while but was recently moved into my kitchen where I am totally loving it.

It gives that corner of my kitchen a whole new farmhouse look!

I found the old galvanized feeder at the Canton Flea Market.  It has a cute little pig embossed on it.  Cute, isn’t it?

Who would have ever thought that I would have an animal feeder on my kitchen wall?

Okay, now I am headed over to LaurieAnna's Farmhouse Friday party.  It was so much fun last week that I am going back!!

I am also partying with Debra over at the beautiful Common Ground for Vintage Inspiration Friday.

And partying for the first time over at From My Front Porch to Yours for her Treasure Hunt Thursday.

The Lovely LaurieAnna’s

Hello to all of my friends…old and new!

There were so many amazing highlights to our trip to Louisiana a couple of weeks ago.

The company, of course, was the best part.

The food was amazing.

The hospitality was grand.

And the shopping was fantastic!

Becky and her precious (yes, I said precious) husband took me to Canton, Texas, to a huge flea market.  Let me tell you that this place was huge… and they kept telling me it was small for August.  I will also tell you that it was HOT like no other hot I have ever felt!

The best part of our trip to Canton was that they also took me to the most beautiful shop that I believe I have ever been in.  This place was amazing from the moment my foot stepped in the door.

The fragrances were amazing….the sights were beautiful…the people were friendly.

Inspiration was everywhere.

I tried to soak in every little detail because I knew I would not be back for at least a year.  (LaurieAnna, I will be back though)

We asked permission to take a few photographs because I wanted to share the beauty with all of you who have never had the opportunity to go.  The pictures I took will not do this place justice.

Take a look at just a little of what I saw…

This beautiful lavender greeted us at the door and  I put my nose as close to it as I could without looking like a very strange out of town person.

Didn’t I tell you that it was gorgeous beyond measure?

I really want to just take my family and move in.

I also really want LaurieAnna and her talented husband to come to middle Tennessee and open up a shop.

What you need to do now is head over to LaurieAnna's Vintage Home blog and check out her beautiful new farmhouse and take a look around her online shoppe.  Really, you have to go over there.  And, if you are ever in Canton, Texas, you really must go to her shoppe and see what I saw.

It is truly an experience.

Oh yeah, let me show you one of the things that I brought back to Tennessee with me…

jars !

I am totally loving the look and the convenience of this bottle drying rack.  Becky had one similar to this one and I loved it,  so I had to bring one home with me.

The little chalkboard slate came from her shoppe also.  Such fun!

Okay, head on over to LaurieAnna's when you have a few minutes to soak in some major beauty.
