Do You Ever Wonder Why You Blog

There have been times that I have questioned why I love this thing called blogging so much.

Why do I spend a little too much time checking out what everyone is doing in their homes and not doing what I need to do in my own.

How could I really be forming friendships with ladies that I have never met in person and some I have never even seen a photograph of.

How is it possible that this computer of mine and this little blog could actually be a catalyst in creating a friendship that will forever change mine and my family’s lives.

Has blogging really done all that?

Well, actually, God has done that through this blog.  He has used my little All Things Home blog to open up doors that would have possibly never been opened.

God has brought a Louisiana family into the lives of this Tennessee family and I can readily say that none of us will ever be the same again.

Now, would you believe me if I told you that I packed up our two daughters and drove all the way to Louisiana to meet a blogging friend that I had never met but had only talked to on the phone and emailed many times?

After much prayer by my hubby and I, that’s exactly what I did, because I knew I was supposed to.  Do you know what I mean?

I mean that I knew it was ordained by God that I meet this lady.  I knew that we were kindred spirits and that we were supposed to be friends.

Our daughters had already formed friendships over the telephone also so that was easy.

We got in our car and we drove.  The girls and I first went to Texas to visit my dad and stepmother and then we went to Louisiana where we stayed for a whole week.  Yep, with strangers.  Crazy, huh?  (Should I do a disclaimer here or something?)

But remember, they weren’t really strangers at all because God had already placed them deeply in our hearts.

Can I tell you a really crazy thing?  I truly feel like I have met my long lost sister.  We are so very much alike, as are our children and our husbands.  I mean really really alike.

This lady is fabulous.  She loves the Lord.  She loves her husband.  She loves her children.  She loves York Peppermint Patties.  She loves Dr. Pepper.  She loves flea markets. She loves white.   She loves my family.

Can you tell that we bonded?  We truly did.  Like deep in our hearts bonded.  Like sisters bonded.  Like forever bonded.

And so did our families.

Okay..okay…I know you want to see some photos so I am going to show you some right now.

This is my sweet friend Becky from Buckets Of Burlap and she is my sister from another mother.  Actually, she is my sister in Christ.  This lady  is beautiful on the inside and the outside.

I have to show you a couple of shots of our children together, but I am going to save a few photos for another time so I don’t overwhelm you too badly.

Our two youngest daughters who became instant BFFs.    These girls were precious together and they were inseparable.

Our two oldest daughters are both major sporty girls and hit it off wonderfully.  Awesome was the word used a lot to describe what Beth thought of her new friend.

And that sweet little guy in the middle playing with them was absolutely adorable.  I mean beyond CUTE!  We fell totally in love with him.

faith and kohl

You cannot even imagine how this guy made us laugh.

We found out that you can make up cheers about anything and everything.  So fun!!

Here’s all the kiddos except for my son who has been working at a church camp all summer and didn’t get to go.  Next time my guys will go with us.

Here is the entire Louisiana family that we now call family…

I know you have all had enough for tonight so I will share more later.

I can’t wait to show you the beautiful shop that Becky took me to in Canton, Texas.   I also have to show you some of the special things that she did for us while we were there.  This lady can cook and is a wonderful hostess.   She also has a beautiful home that was like walking into a magazine.  And, her husband is a majorly talented man with carpentry skills that are amazing.  Together, they are a fantastic team!

Will share more later.  Hope you will come back and see more of our amazing trip next time.

God bless you all!!

Flea Market Frame

By now, you all know that the flea market is my favorite place to shop.

I showed you my new green table the other day and now I want to show you my green frame that I picked up at the same time.

It looks like to me that this was some pieces and parts that were put together.

I know, I know, you have seen this little table and my pretty lady on it a bunch of times.    It’s a little different this time, though, because I added the frame  and I added the suitcase in the back.  I also brought out my cool wooden crate to house my nighttime tv watching blanket.

I won’t  be able to go to July’s flea market in Nashville, but instead will get to go to one in Texas.  Yep, can you believe it?

I am actually in Louisiana right now with my friend/sister in Christ, Becky, from Buckets of Burlap.  I can’t wait to share with you all about our time together. (yes, she is wonderful and her home is so beautiful and comfortable)

3…2…1…Road Trip

We’re going on a road trip and we cannot wait.

It’s been a pretty emotional summer so I am excited to have a chance to do something different for a little while.

The girls and I are leaving our sweet men behind and heading down the road.

You see this little boy…

That’s my daddy.  Cute, isn’t he?

We are headed to see him and my stepmom in Texas for a week.  They have a beautiful thousand acre ranch with beautiful canyons, caves, horses, cattle and yes, I know, HEAT!    We’re tough, we can take it.

But that’s not it!

After we leave from our week in Texas, we are headed to Louisiana to visit a very special friend of mine.  The neat thing about this friend is that a whole lot of you probably know her too.

We are heading to Louisiana to spend a week with Becky from Buckets of Burlap and her precious family!!

Awesome, right!!!!

Are you wondering if we have ever met before?

Are you wondering how, why, what???

Let me just tell you.

Becky and I met through our blogs quite some time ago and became fast friends.  Then our youngest daughters became friends, or as they might say BFFs.  Next our oldest daughters, who are both major sporty girls, became friends.  And then there is the sweet little fellow that I can’t wait to give a big hug to because he just sounds huggable.

Actually, I have to admit that the first person in the family that I ever actually spoke to was Becky’s sweet husband.  Let me just tell you that this is a good man.  Just sayin…

I truly believe that God ordained this friendship for lots of reasons and I absolutely cannot wait to physically meet Becky and her family.

I’m thinking there is going to be some major eating, shopping, laughing and talking going on that week.  I can’t wait to share with you all of the fun things we do.

I also can’t wait to just soak in all of the beautiful things she does in her home.  Really, take a good long look around her house and you will see what I mean.  GORGEOUS farmhouse, I tell you!

So that’s what my next two weeks hold.  Me and my precious girls on the road, visiting my daddy and meeting new friends.

So here goes…

Please pray for us for safe travel and please oh please  pray for my mom who goes back to the doctor on Wednesday.

That’s my pretty mama up there on the left.  I think that was a junior or senior photo of her.  Love my old black and white photos, you know.

I will still be checking in with everyone, so don’t write me off completely these next couple of weeks.    I would love for you to share some of the fun that we are having,  so I will be blogging a little along the way.

Take care friends and God bless!!!

(I used little peat pots that I bought at Lowes and prettied them up a little bit.  Don't they make great photo holders?)

Sweet Treats

Hey friends!

I am not trying to go on and on about our little party last weekend, but there were a couple of more things that I wanted to share with you.

I showed you the beverage bar in my last post  and now I want to show you the sweet treats we had.    (you know that’s your favorite part anyway, right)

Let me just preface this by saying that I do not mind cooking and baking, but if I have someone who wants to help me in the kitchen so that I can do other things that need to be done,  then that is just perfect with me.

For this party, my two sweet daughters wanted to do the baking.

(I love photos of my children so I had to throw it in there)

Let me give you a closer look as to what they made.

cupcakes 1

These are S’Mores cupcakes and they are delicious!

I got the recipe from the beautiful blogger with the fabulous blog over at Three Pixie Lane.  I will share the recipe with you at the bottom of the post and then you can try them for yourself, deal.

The oatmeal chocolate chip cookies were also a huge hit.  Can you really go wrong with any kind of oatmeal cookie?  I think not.

I had  a friend who also brought a dessert, but I didn’t get a picture of it.  Can I say that it was delectable also?  It had ice cream sandwiches, cool whip, homemade hot fudge sauce….I will just stop there since I can’t show you a picture of it.    Oh my, it was to die for.

Okay, take a look one more time and then I will give you the cupcake recipe.

S’Mores Cupcakes

1 box Duncan Hines Moist Deluxe Fudge or Chocolate Cake Mix
1 1/2 cups Graham Cracker Crumbs
5 Tablespoons butter, melted
Semi-sweet chocolate chip morsels
Hershey Bars

1 jar of marshmallow cream (7oz)
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 cups powdered sugar
1 or 2 teaspoons milk

1.  Preheat over to 350 degrees.  Line 24 muffin cups with paper liners.  In a bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs and butter (you can add 1/4 cup sugar to this if you want the crust a bit sweeter).  Add approximately 1 tablespoon to the bottom of each muffin cup.  Use a small circular object to press the crumbs evenly into the bottom of each liner. (We used a small glass)  Bake for 5 minutes and remove from the oven.

2.  Add a few semi-sweet chocolate chip morsels on top of the crust in each cup.

3.  Add the cake mixture evenly to the cups, filling each about 3/4 of the way full and bake according to package instructions until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.  Cool for about 5 minutes in the pan and then cool completely on a wire rack.

4.  Remove lid and foil from jar of marshmallow cream.    Soften marshmallow cream for easy removal from jar by placing in the microwave on high for 15-20 seconds.  In a large bowl, beat marshmallow cream, butter and powdered sugar on low speed until blended.  Beat in enough milk, 1/2 tsp at a time, to make desired consistency.  After cupcakes have cooled, pipe frosting on top.

5.  You can “toast” the marshmallow frosting with a kitchen torch or just top with a rectangle of Hershey’s chocolate.

YUMMY stuff, I promise!!

Let me know if you try them and tell me what you think.

By the way…my mama’s surgery was yesterday and it went great.  We will find out our next step next week.  Please keep praying with me.  Thank you so much and God bless.

Heading over to Faded Charm for the wonderful white Wednesday party.

Mason Jars At a Party

The party is over and we had a great time.

I think the birthday girl (she just turned 50) felt special and that was my main concern.

Just wanted to show you the simple little thing I did with our drinking glasses for the evening.

Instead of plastic cups with names written in permanent markers, which is totally fine by the way, I chose to go a little different route.

Remember the picture I showed you the other day…

This is what I did with all of this to make it a little more fun and special…

jars 1

How simple it was to take tags from my already tea stained stash and just stamp everyone’s names on them.  They already had the string on them and they slipped around the mouth of the jar just perfectly.

jars 2

jars fruit

We had lemonade, raspberry lemonade, raspberry tea and water.  There were no 2 ltr soda bottles anywhere because I wanted it to all look pretty.  And, you know as well as I do that soda bottles just are not pretty.  Smile

See how simple my little project here was.

Try it for one of your parties and just see how everyone loves seeing their names in print.

I’ll show you a few more party favorites  later.

Our desserts were scrumptiously made by both of my daughters and I want you to see them next.

Have a truly blessed day today.  This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!!!

Getting Party Ready

Hey my friends!

Hope you are doing wonderful!

I am getting ready for a little birthday party for a friend of mine.

Several of our closest friends will be here that we haven’t seen in a long time, so, of course, I have to do some fluffing around the house to make it party ready.

I don’t really bring in party décor.  I tend to bring in flowers and candles and just try to make things smell good and look pretty and clean.

I also usually make most of my cleaning supplies but decided to splurge a few weeks ago and order some beautifully lavender scented cleaners.

See what I’m doing today.

I ordered these delightful cleaners and a few other things from Sweet Grass Farm.    Go check them out online at

After everything is good and clean, then I start adding pretty white flowers everywhere.

We have a little snack station that gets used a lot.  The entire sign reads Sweet and Salty.

The guest bathroom has to have a little flower and candles also.

This simple vintage wire basket with flowers will greet our guests as they arrive.

I like to buy a couple of the five dollar bouquet of flowers at Wal-Mart and just spread them all over the house.  So fresh, so pretty.

My next little project tonight will include these…

I’ll show you later what they look like.

I love to make people feel special when they come to our home.  I want them to know that I took a little more time to make things “just right” just for them.

See you all soon.

(For those of you praying for my mom, thank you from the bottom of my heart)

Outdoor Birthday Surprise (from a friend)

Hello my dear friends.
Boy, it’s been a busy week.
God brought us home safely from a wonderful vacation where we rested, relaxed and continually put our faith in Him.
I also celebrated my 43rd birthday!  Woo Hoo!  I am thankful to be alive!  What about you?
Now to what I want to share with you.
I asked one of my best friends not to get me a birthday gift this year, but to do a complete redo of my outdoors.  That included my deck, patio, driveway, etc.  I gave her complete freedom to do whatever her heart desired and, oh my goodness, did she do a fantastic job!!
I was beyond thrilled last night when we arrived home to see what she had come up with.
Take a look with me.  I’ll just show photos and try hard not to talk along the way.  (you know how much I like to talk though)
Come on, go for a walk with me…

Whew!  It’s hot out there, isn’t it?
Thanks for walking around with me.
My friend worked for hours getting this all set up for me.  How awesome is that?  I know it was terribly hot and she had other things she could have been doing, but she spent her time doing something to make me happy.
Thanks, Veronica, you did an amazing job!
She told me it was  easy to do because I had so much stuff, or did she say junk, to work with.  Smile
I do have lots of stuff, but it truly was mostly all bought second hand.
Now for her birthday she wants me to come and fluff the inside of her house.  Isn’t it funny how you can go to someone else’s house and see things with a fresh eye that they hadn’t seen.
Find a friend to trade “skills or talents” with.  It’s fun and you get a lot out of it.
There are so many ways to barter.   If you have fresh eggs and your friend has fresh veggies, trade up.  If you can sew and your friend can paint, swap skills.  It really does come in handy.
Ok, let’s go get a cold glass of lemonade now and cool off.
