Freshening Up the Dining Room

Isn’t it fun to bring home a few new things and start playing around with them?

dr 2

That beautiful frame on my buffet was a birthday gift from my  Louisiana family that I just brought home.

It’s amazing what a few things moved from here to there can do.  It’s also amazing what moving some things clear out of the house and selling them at a yardsale can do.

That’s what I have been doing…freshening, cleaning, selling.

One of the things that I notice every time I go to my friend Becky’s house is how really simplistic she is.  Now, I mean simplistic in the most complimentary way.  She doesn’t have clutter like I do.  You notice things in a special way because things aren’t so busy in her house.

When I came home from her barn sale, I took a cue from her and got rid of a ton of stuff.  Boy, it felt good to move so much stuff out of the house.  Man, my husband is happy.

My house feels bigger, cleaner, fresher.  My eyes have a place to rest.

dr 4

I almost feel like I can rest easier as well.

dr 8

It’s a nice feeling for all of us.

dr 7

My goal is to keep it this way…easy and cozy.

Don’t you love when a friend gives you advice sometimes without even saying a word?

Don’t you love when another friend gives you beautiful hydrangeas for your birthday that she is growing in her cottage garden?  And, that same friend gives you a raspberry and hydrangea bush?

Man, am I ever blessed with great friends!

I am linking up today with Debra over at Common Ground and
Fresh Cut Friday over at Rose Vignettes

When we moved (sold and rebuilt) 8 years ago , I decided to edit! I parted with a lot of things. I kept the things I adored and couldn't live without.
I have accumulated some more since... but I edit as I go. I reshab and place in the shop.
Luv the frame. Your dining room is luvly.
Happy 4th.

I love when you can look into a room and see everything at one time with your eyes and not feel like it is to much. You hit it on this one. I just love it great job. It is beautiful. Happy 4th. Your dining room looks very fresh and pretty!!
I've been cleaning out too for different reasons. After my siblings and I recently cleaned out and packed up for my parents' move to an apartment in their retirement center, I came home and started cleaning out closets, etc. Good feeling!

You did 'simplicity' in this room to perfection! It's so hard for me to edit because I sure love 'stuff', but I always feel so much better after I do!

I love your place. I never saw it as clutter. Simple beauty is surrounding yourself with all that you love, but yes sometimes it feels get to declutter. I'm in the process of doing that in many areas. The process is sometimes painful. I love the plate holder with the ironstone plates. I just can't find much ironstone these days. The bucket of hydrangeas is simply beautiful. Hope you are doing well. Looking good girl!

Loving it as usual. I started getting rid of stuff a few years ago (actually around the time I started blogging) and I'm still in reduce and simplify mode. What I find is that the story I'm trying to tell with my details is easier to tell if I'm not trying to tell a thousand stories at the same time.

Hey! That's kind of a blog post, isn't it? Why is it that I can yak away all day in a comment, but I can't get two words together to post?

Gorgeous dining room all freshened for Summer, dear friend!!! I, too, like a lighter look of accessories during Summer. . .but come Fall through Spring, I have many treasures that must come out to be enJOYed!!!
Ove the past three years, I've done some serious editing. . .perhaps with time it will appear more streamlined!!!
Thanks for sharing your new look with us!!!
