Cows

Hey all my friends.

I guess it’s because my grandfather, father and brother used to show Jersey cows, and my other grandfather was a cattle trader, that I just have “the love of cows” in my blood.

I have some great old black and white snap shots of my father and grandfather with their show cows that I am going to try and enlarge to use.  I also have lots of their ribbons and even a few silver trophy bowls that they won.   Such awesome memorabilia.

I have recently been on a cow hunt.  Now, I don’t want just any old cow.  I want it to have the right look.  You know what I mean….right?

Let me show you a couple that I have recently brought home.

See him sitting way down there on my white bench.

Here he is a little closer up…

My friend, Kim, made me this pillow.  Remember her etsy shop giveaway I did a couple of weeks ago.  Check out her shop again here.

I also just purchased this great little 8 x10 canvas from Fine Farmhouse and I love it.

cow picture 2

I love how subtle this canvas is.  Dru did a great job making her look old.

cow picture 1

This old wooden screen holds my kitchen essentials.  I love to corral things together like this.

Our chickens are laying us lots and lots of eggs right now.  We are getting a dozen plus everyday.   Thank you my pretty hens…

Now you know I cannot talk about cows and leave out my all time favorite bovine.

herley 3

Yes, Herley is still my number 1 cow of all times.

herley 2

I don’t think Herley will ever be replaced.  He will always be my favorite and he will always hold a place of honor and distinction in my home.

So now I have three cows.   There is one in the kitchen, one in the dining room, and one in the living room.  I don’t want to be a collector of cows so I will probably stop soon.  A few will do me just fine.

Of course the above comment doesn’t mean that I am going to stop my hunt.

Hope you are having a great week and that the rest of it is blessed beyond measure.

Thanks, as always, for taking your time to visit with me.  I know your time is precious.

Farm Produce Truck

Hey all!

I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend.

My husband is in from out of town and the whole family is together.  Thankful….

I have to show you a little truck I picked up the other day.

I don’t think it’s very old, but it sure is cute.

I.M. MacDonald Fresh Farm Produce

Isn’t it a cutie?

Speaking of fresh produce…

I had a sweet and generous friend bring me two bushels of green beans yesterday.  Oh yeah, that’s a lot of green beans.

We have been breaking beans, cooking beans, and canning beans.

We have also been creating beautiful “stained glass windows” today.

See…

My sweet 9 year old has been crafting.  Crayons, paper, and an iron on low setting = lots of fun and prettiness.

Have a wonderful rest of your weekend, friends.

Diamond Dye Chippy White Cabinet

Hello to all my friends!

It seems like it’s been awhile since I have been on here.  I am trying real hard to keep first things first and setting priorities in my life is a must.

We seem to have so much going on right now and my home is taking a little backseat.

I did get to take a quick trip to see my mom last week and while there was able to go by my uncle’s place which is full of amazing things.   While looking in one of his many places that he keeps his treasures, I spotted a chippy white little cabinet.  It seemed to be  just sitting there waiting just for me to bring it home and make it beautiful.  I was happy to oblige.

Beautiful rusty old tin front that used to read Diamond Dyes and then had some sort of girl and boy scene underneath.

I love the way my paper wreath picks up on so many of the colors in the tin.

Yes, I know I just showed you this farm table the other day and now I have already changed it up again.  That’s just what happens around here.

This is another thing I have been working on…

apples

I picked this beautiful basket of apples from an apple tree right down the road from me.  I have been making apple butter and apple sauce and a wonderful apple pie.

Time to get busy with my day.

I pray you all have a wonderful day and week ahead.

A Little Pre-Fall Mantel Fix-Up

I posted earlier today on the winner of the giveaway but also wanted to do a quick post of a little mantel fix up.

I told you earlier in the week that I am doing a little pre-fall prettying up.  I also told you that I am trying to add some touches of blues and reds here and there.

I decided to bring my beautiful 1953 American Walking Horse Trophy from my bedroom into my living room so it would be a little more visible.

I brought my one and only demi-john in from the dining room and pulled out some books that were different shades of blues and reds.

I ended up with this simple pre-fall mantel…

This little white bench, made from what I think was an old ammo box, sits in front of the fireplace to help try to lighten the oak up just a little.

The biggest pillow is just an old sugar sack and the smaller one is the one I showed you the other day that my friend Kim made for me.

I know I shouldn’t be rushing time away, but I really am looking forward to the arrival of fall.  Here in Tennessee, the weather has been so pleasant the last few days that  it has really made me think more and more about the changing of the seasons.  I feel like fall is teasing us just a little bit around here.

Just a reminder to be happy with what you have.

If you have carpeted floors instead of hardwood…embrace the softness.

If you have an oak fireplace instead of white…embrace the fact that dirt doesn’t show on it.

If you have oak kitchen cabinets..embrace the fact that you have a place to put your dishes.

If you live in a traditional brick home instead of a beautiful old farmhouse…embrace the fact  that you can make it be anything you want it to be.

I am thankful!!!

Out With the Greens, In With Some Reds and Blues

Hey everyone!

I told you in a recent post that I was trying to warm things up a little in our home.  I am moving out some of the blue greens for awhile and bringing in little bits of red and blue.  Not much of the red and blue…just a smidge.  (am I the only one who thinks smidge is such a fun word to say?)

My favorite things right now to decorate with are natural woods, whites, metals, burlap, vintage linens, with some red and blue thrown in here and there.

I think those are great elements going into fall and winter. Yes, I am very much thinking about fall.

A friend and I played around a little with my farm table yesterday with all of those thoughts above in mind.

I also just went on the Endless Yardsale with my son this weekend and picked up a couple of pretty cool things that I wanted to add to my living room.

box 3

This old rusty little oven was one of my favorite finds on the HWY 127 yardsale.  (really not sure what it’s specific purpose was, but it had a thermostat and racks in it)

sacks

I also found a load of these old feed, soap,  and sugar sacks for .25 each.

quilts 1

I am on the hunt for quilts now.  My mom has given me several, but the one on top came from the yardsale.   Most of my other quilts are stacked up on an old cabinet in my bedroom.  Depends on the color as to which room they end up in.

table 5

table 6

table 8

What fun it is to change things up a bit and bring in some different colors.  I do have lots of the blue green though so it will probably come back out in the spring and summer.  We’ll see.

Hey, don’t forget the GIVEAWAY that I am hosting for a friend of mine.  Be sure to check it out.

Have a great rest of your week.

Beautiful Pillows and a Giveaway

Hey all my friends!

Today is a good day!  How about where you are?

I told you in my last post (here) about the giveaway I was going to be hosting for a sweet friend and new etsy shop owner.  My friend’s name is Kim and she and I actually go to church together.  She is a beautiful lady, inside and out.  She is a  wife, and mother of two precious children.  She also has great talent and has decided to share some of that talent with all of us.

I told Kim that once she got her shop open, I would LOVE to introduce you all to her and let you have a chance to see her creations.

She is still in the  process of filling her shop but does have several things listed.  She will be adding more so be sure to  keep visiting her.

Right now I want to show you a few beautiful pillows she made for me.  (Can I just say a big wooo hooo for my friends who can sew and are so generous and kind?)

white burlap

This is the pillow I showed you the other day.  I love the light burlap…so clean and crisp.

burlap roses 2

Love the multiple burlap rosettes on this one.

ross 3

Love that this burlap beauty reads Made in the USA across the top.   Words and graphics are always a winner to me.  (I have actually asked Kim to make me a pillow with a cow graphic of some sort on it and can wait to see what she comes up with)  Of course, I will be sure to show you.

red and white 4

I especially love this red and white ticking pillow.  I have really enjoyed pulling some reds and blues into our home recently so this one is just perfect sitting on my little bistro chair.

***

Now to the fun giveaway part.

Kim is offering a $25 gift certificate to use in her shop for whoever wins.

She is also offering a 10% discount to anyone who is a follower of mine and orders something from her.  If you are a follower and want to buy something from her shop, then just let Kim know in the “Notes” section that you are a follower of Amy’s or All Things Home.  EASY enough.    (“Thanks Kim for offering to do this for my friends”)

***DISCLAIMER…I always hesitate in asking people to follow me during a giveaway time, but I think Kim’s idea of doing this was too kind and too generous to pass up.

Okay…so here’s what I would love for you to do…

Go to Kim’s etsy shop, Sew Cute Kreations, and take a look around.  Again, remember that she will be adding new items to her shop soon.

Then I would like for you to come back and tell me what your “favorite” is in her shop.

I would also love for you to share this giveaway with your friends on facebook or your blog.

***

Leave me a comment telling me what’s your favorite thing.

If you share it on facebook, leave me a comment.

If you share it on your blog, leave me a comment.

That’s 3 comments total that you can leave me and get your name in the drawing three times.  (Boy, I don’t like confusing giveaways…is this one confusing?)  I think this one is actually pretty easy compared to some others I have seen.

Okay…when you have a minute…click HERE to go to Kim’s Sew Cute Kreations and take a look around.  Remember to come back and leave your comments.

The WINNER will be chosen one week from today on Monday, August 13th.

God bless you all!!

Thanks, my friends, for always supporting new bloggers and new etsy shop owners.  You are all great!!
