White Paint Makes it Perfect…

Isn’t it wonderful what a little paint can do for a piece of furniture that you have really grown a little weary with?

I have had this secretary for several years….

It was actually my nanny’s,  and I really didn’t feel like I should paint it.  Until recently…I decided that she wouldn’t mind and would be happy that I was happy with it.

And, happy I am with how it looks now.

As much as I love white furniture, there are still a lot of pieces in our home that are dark.  I really enjoy mixing it all together.

Let me tell you how totally inspired I was spending the week with Becky from Buckets of Burlap and going to the beautiful Laurie Anna's Vintage Home.

I think I have spent pretty much the entire week catching up on laundry, taking care of some outside jobs and yes, rearranging, painting and playing in my house.  Such fun…

I am going to party over at Laurie Anna’s for her new Farmhouse Friday party, At the Picket Fence, and Debra at Common Ground.  Come over with me, my friends.

So glad you're linking up with VIF, love the change! So many things hold us back from doing what we REALLY want. Glad you made that leap! xoxo Debra

This turned out beautifully! I'm sure your nanny would be happy to see it given new life.
I love your collection of small pitchers!

And it did turn out perfectly! I believe your Nanny would be so proud to see how well it fits in your home with all the farmhouse goodies. I really love the old tote with twine. That color is such a great contrast with the white.
You have been so busy since you returned home. Painting, arranging...
I can not wait to see what you did with the cute table and benches set!
Keep the good stuff coming...

Very Nice!!! Good for you!
I too love white! Brightens up a room in no time! Most of my antique furniture was handed down to me from family & when I hear my Mother tell how hard she worked to refinish all of it...it makes it VERY hard to paint it white again!

As Always Thanks for sharing!

Great job!! It looks so different doesn't it? Really lightens up the area. You did a wonderful job on it.

May I ask? Is the date on the log above your wedding date? Neat idea!

I have a great giveaway going so please stop by.

You know one of the aspects of coming home after being to another house that you really love? It is how you look at your house a different way...you see more possibilites somehow. You see changes you could make. I have a friend that lives a good distance away-every time I go to her house I come home and totally turn my house upside down and change things.

I'm speaking as a "Nanny" when I tell you that YOUR Nanny would be thrilled that you painted that piecce because she would want you to love it like she did. I have several pieces that will end up with kids and grandkids someday and I just want them to make the piece fit them...and that is JUST what you did with your Gramma's piece- I love it-Miss you being around as much as you used to be- what do you MEAN you have a life????? xo Diana

Amy - It looks absolutely beautiful. Love the ladder next to it too. I'm like you. Some pieces that have been handed down to me, I almost feel it is disrespectful to paint, thinking they would not approve or I'm not appreciative. Instead, I should be thinking of how I'm enhancing the piece so that I can honestly say I really love it now. So far I have not been brave enough but seeing all of you decorators and bloggers out here with all of your stunning make overs and the inspiration........hmmmm..... one of these days.

I think it looks fresh and fabulous, and I am trying SO HARD to get the courage to paint some pieces that I really don't like around here.

Why is it I'm such an admirer of what other people do and such a pure out CHICKEN at home?

That looks beautiful, Amy. It really brightens up the area and shows off all your pretty things. I'm sure your Nanny would love it too. Hope you have a good weekend :)

It all looks so lovely, Amy! It's great that you came back soo inspired! I am so thankful for those who inspire and encourage me. My Mom was the absolute most wonderful, and she is with the Lord since 2004, but there are so many that pick up where she left off.

Always a joy to spend time with girl friends and share ideas!

I so delighted that you had such a fun trip! Couldn't have happened to a sweeter gal!

Hugs!

Love white paint! I painted some frames this week, and it's amazing what such a small change can do.

I struggle with the idea of painting family pieces as well, but like you, I feel it is probably 'ok' with everyone. It puts our personal spin on our family pieces! Lori L

I love white paint, and I think I will be painting some pieces from my mother-in-law white. So I am happy to see how wonderful the white paint looks on your secretary.

that is a beautiful transformation! I like it a lot painted white - and for some reason, I didn't know that you and Becky were friends - but I'm so not surprised...her house and decor are amazing I'm sure...I bet you came home and wanted to change a bunch! I did that when visiting Tracey's home for the first time...

have a great weekend!

LOVE it! There are some pieces I struggle over painting, too...but then I am always glad I did. Your cabinet is lovely...and that aqua toolbox...now that is a great treasure...it *pops* against the white.
Have a great weekend!
