My mother always gets me the neatest gifts.
It used to be new stuff that I wanted, but I no longer ask for new. Now, I ask for vintage, old, antique, weathered...whatever you want to call it. I guess the older I get, the more I like old stuff.
She got me a couple of really unique items for my birthday and one I want to ask you about.
It's probably something simple, but just curious if you know what this was used for...
It has Capacity 5 Liquid Gallons stamped into it. It was hard to figure out what it said, but my smart mama took a piece of paper and a pencil and shaded over the wording and it came out more clearly on the piece of paper. Very wise woman she is.
So, tell me what it is if you know...
Now, on to my other gift that I think is so awesome.
Love this chalkboard easel with all of it amazing scrolling information.
The piece at the top scrolls through all kinds of neat info.
I have to show you a little of what it shows, but I won't bore you with all of it.
Look with me...
Is this not a totally neat piece? What is your opinion on it? Have you ever seen one? Do you have any idea how old it might be?
I would love this any way, but I especially do because I homeschool. Just seems to fit in my house.
And, this is my sweet, pretty mama.
Thanks for any info you can share with me about my new gifts.

Great gifts! I don't know about the can. It's a very unique shape. I've seen chalkboards like that before, but I have no idea about the age.
wow amy,
you have two very special gifts from your sweet mama! sorry i can't help you with the mystery item. have a great weekend!
judi ;)
I JUST saw an easel like that a couple months ago. I think they are SOOO cool. I think mine had a date on it. I'll go find the pictures and see. I didn't buy it though. :(
Ugh. I must have deleted the pictures. I will try to run back into the antique store and check for you sometime soon.
Although the ones I remember seeing are wooden, I wonder if the bucket is a sap/syrup bucket? It kind of has that shape. Whatever it is, I love it.
And that chalkboard, I LOVE! Do you think it was used in a schoolhouse? Does it feel that authentically old?
I have a "thing" about old school items.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, and what amazing gifts! Love both. Look forward to seeing how you put them to use. You are a cutie! Great photo of you and your mom.
Oh my that is just amazing, I love it, I have no idea how old it may be but it a gorgeous piece to have, good finds indeed, hugs Barbara

What a great mom. No idea from me on the age. I have seen chalk boards like that before. They were simply for children to use to learn and play with.
I think your can is just what it says it is, a can for liquid that has a wonderful awesome built in spout. Never seen one like that before. I doubt it was for gasoline as it would probably say that on it.
Both items are terrific, Great mom you have there. Is she available for loan????

Hey Amy!
Ok... Totally guessing... either some type of water can, milk can, or oil gas can??? I don't know and even had my mom look at it (since she use to deal in antiques) but she hadn't seen it before either. I love it's patina or painted surface (can't tell which it is). These are great gifts... sounds like you have great mom (too)! :)

Squeal!!!! I LOVE love love the chalkboard. How neat to have a scrolling bible-verse-thingy at the top. I've never seen one like that!
I have no idea about the first item. My guess is for pouring coal into the stove-?? Whatever it is, I like it!
Do you think that's just an old watering can? Neat gifts!
The chalk board looks like it was used in Sunday School... Both are really neat gifts! Lezlee
I honestly thought that I had posted to this. I must have clickity clicked the wrong thing again. Good grief.
I love that chalkboard!!
And event though it's not wooden, that bucket sort of has the shape of a sap or syrup bucket.
Just tossing that out there.
I have never seen a chalkboard like that. My guess is that it could be from the 30's or 40's. Looking at the printing and legs, I really am not sure.
My first thought on the "bucket" was for coal, but with a liquid measurement I am changing my answer to fuel oil or kerosine.
She does know how to buy you good gifts.
(btw - Happy Birthday)
That scrolling chalkboard is amazing! what a cool find. And how interesting that people who made everyday objects from not that long ago still honored God. We have become such a self-centered, Godless nation. All it takes is a generation.
Thanks for commenting at Cranberry Morning! :-)
